Fauré's Requiem

On the Tuesday of Holy Week, 31st March, the choirs of St Bartholomew's will be performing the movement's of Fauré's Requiem.
Gabriel Fauré's Requiem is a choral-orchestral setting of the shortened Catholic Mass for the Dead in Latin. It is best known for its focus on eternal rest and consolation.
In Holy Week, approaching the cross of Good Friday and the glorious resurrection of Easter Day, so we too can be reminded of the worship of the church for this most important of Christian festivals.
The work consists of seven movements scored for soprano and baritone soloists, mixed choir, orchestra, and organ. Notably, the sequence the recognisable and beautiful movement ‘In Paradisum’.
Fauré described his Requiem as "a lullaby of death," emphasizing a serene and hopeful departure from earthly life. The piece premiered in 1888 and was revised in 1893, with the final version completed in 1900.
The performance begins at 6:00pm, and is open to all who wish to come. There is no ticket fee, but donations are welcome at the end of the performance.
