Summit Youth Group

Summit is a church youth group for 12–14-year-olds that meets every second Wednesday of the month during term time from 5:45-7pm.  The sessions are a mix of Christian spiritual discussion, fun socials and trips, and special projects to help the local community and environment.   We are based out of St Christopher’s Church in Haslemere, however, we are often out in the local community and so locations are confirmed in each half term’s line up.  Our focus is on the health of our young people, not just their physical health, but also their spiritual, mental, moral, political, economic, and social health, as well as the health of the environment which also feeds back into their well-being.

 Aims of the Group

Spiritual Connection (Relationship with God) – It’s not just about being God smart, it’s about being God connected.  We aim to help the young people connect with God on a spiritual level.

Growing (Doing things together) – We will grow and bond together as a group through social outings and fun games.  There will also be plenty of opportunities to draw closer together and grow as a ‘family’ during the meaningful discussions and when out making a difference in the local community.

Summit 1

Worship (Being Part of the Church) – As the children grow in their faith, we will encourage them to become part of the wider church community and involve them in serving it. They may wish to write and read the intercessions or become an acolyte.

Serving (Helping Others) – We will be helping in the local community and environment.  What is close to each young person’s heart will help us to decide on the projects we will tackle as it’s important to find their passion points to create drive and meaning. Faith leads to action and action leads to faith.

Summit 2

Safeguard & Support – A core aim of the group is to create a place of safety for these young people and to provide support.  This is going to be their space and we will abide by safeguarding rules and guidance to ensure it is a refuge and a healthy environment.

Spring Term Line-Up

This term we will then be looking forward to Easter with a Last Supper inspired meal and discussion surrounding Jesus’s relationship with his disciples and consider the friendships we have in our own lives – are they healthy or unhealthy ones and how we can be guided by Jesus?  The Summit will also be involved in a big church family meal on the 28th March based on the Jewish Passover Feast which is full of symbolism.
