By email to the Parish distribution list on 23 April 2018
I’m writing to repeat my announcement at the end of yesterday’s APCM, that I will be retiring early next year. My last Sunday will be 3 February. It will be a wrench to leave all of you after more than seven years together, but I think it is the right time (which doesn’t of course meant the easy time!) for the parish, the United Benefice and for me.
We have come a long way together and it’s time for someone with a fresh perspective to come and work with you to build on all that we have achieved and find the way forward into the future God has planned for you.
As for me, my plan is to move to Cheltenham where, as many of you know, I have good friends, and in due course to find a church where I can make a contribution without being responsible for its leadership!
Our Vision Weekend, 18-20 May, will provide a great opportunity to shape our vision for the future and also to begin thinking towards what might go into the parish profile, which will be the key document in the search for a new Rector. Do come, and be part of the process!
There will be a lot more to say over time about arrangements for the future, not least because Barbara Steele Perkins is retiring from Grayswood in September this year, and I’m having informal discussions with our Archdeacon about all of this. He will be coming to preach on Sunday 8 July – another date for your diaries.
In the meantime, we can all be praying for the parish, the United Benefice and for each other – for whatever God has in store for us.
With my love and prayers
Rev Mary Bowden
Rector: Haslemere and Grayswood
