Holy Week and Easter 2017

In the week leading up to Easter Day, we travel alongside Christians throughout the world, retracing the steps of Christ through the last momentous week of his earthly life. We walk the way of the cross together, entering into the story in our imagination and reflecting on its mystery, its sorrow and its joy.

Please do come to as many or as few events and services as you like.

Palm Sunday 9 April

Holy Communion / 8.00am / St Bartholomew’s Church

Eucharist service according to the Book of Common Prayer.

Parish Eucharist / 10.00 am / St Christopher’s Church

Beginning with a procession around St Christopher’s Green and including a dramatised reading of the Passion Gospel according to Matthew.

 

Monday 10 April

Morning Prayer / 8.30am / St Bartholomew’s Church

Choral compline / 8.00pm / St. Christopher’s Church 

A service of quiet contemplation, with seasonal music sung a cappella by Sine Nomine, including Sheppard’s Media Vita and Lotti’s Crucifixus.

 

Tuesday 11 April

Morning Prayer / 8.30am / St Bartholomew’s Church

 

Light in darkness / 8.00pm / St Bartholomew’s Church

A reflection on the last days of Jesus’ ministry.

 

Wednesday 12 April

Morning Prayer / 8.30am / St Bartholomew’s Church

Passover Supper / 7.30pm / St Christopher’s Church

We share a meal based on the Jewish festival of Passover that Jesus would have         celebrated with his disciples at the Last Supper. Roast lamb, other traditional elements and wine provided. Bring and share salad or pudding. Suggested donation £6.

Maundy Thursday 13 April

Remembering the Last Supper / 8.00pm / St Bartholomew’s Church

Holy Communion with foot washing.

The Watch of the Passion / 8.00pm / St Bartholomew’s Prayer Chapel

The 8.00pm service will be followed by the Watch of the Passion in the Prayer Chapel as we stay awake with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane until midnight. Please sign up in church, or contact the Parish Office.

 

Good Friday 14 April

Hot Cross Buns & Creating Prayers / 10.45am / The Link at St Bart’s

Meet in The Link at to get ready for the procession to the Town Hall: hot cross buns, and creating prayers.

Ecumenical town service / 12 noon / outside Haslemere Town Hall

Proclamation of the Cross and Communion for Good Friday.

 

Holy Saturday 15 April

Confirmation Service / 8.00pm / Guildford Cathedral

Come to support our group of adults and young people as they are confirmed, and join in the Easter celebrations with our bishops and people from parishes right across the diocese of Guildford.

 

Easter Day 16 April

Service of Light

and First Eucharist of Easter

5.45am / St Bartholomew’s Church

Beginning before dawn in the churchyard, we celebrate Christ’s resurrection by lighting the Paschal candles from the Easter fire in the churchyard, renewing our baptismal vows and carrying the light of Christ into church, where we share communion. In and around St Bartholomew’s, followed by cooked breakfast in The Link.

9.30am /   Family Communion at St Bartholomew’s Church

With Easter egg hunt and other activities for children.

We invite you to bring a decorated box of fresh eggs to give to a recently bereaved     family as an Easter gift.

11.00am / Family Communion at St Christopher’s Church

Easter celebrations for all the family, including decorating fresh eggs and other activities for younger children.
