20.00 Candlemas Service – corrected time!

2nd February 2017 12:00 2nd February 2017 21:00 Europe/London 20.00 Candlemas Service – corrected time!

Candlemas – reminder and correction This special event marks the end of Christmas, and the Presentation of Christ in the Temple – the event at which Simeon and Anna (loyal Temple worshippers) recognised the infant Jesus as the “Light to lighten the gentiles”.  Because of its association with light, it is also traditionally the time of year when candles for use in the coming year are blessed – hence its alternative name of Candlemas. In addition to being a Eucharist, this will be a musical feast.  An unaccompanied chamber choir will be providing the music (to concert standard), almost all of it by one of the foremost church composers of the Renaissance – Palestrina. Please note that the service will start at 8.00pm, not 7.30 as previously advertised. If you want any further information about this, please feel free to contact Tim Dutton (656371).
